Join us at the Ithaca Children’s Garden on Saturday October 15, 3-6pm to celebrate scarecrows, pumpkins, and everything autumn. The Scarecrow Jubilee and Pumpkin Jam combine again this year for an afternoon of family fun at the Garden.
We’ll have all the materials you’ll need to create a scarecrow of your own. Staff from Cayuga Landscape and volunteers will be on hand to help you master the basic construction. We’ll have pumpkins for sale at bargain prices and lots of kid-safe carving tools so you can create a jack-o-lantern and leave your goop with us. Also plenty of harvest-themed hands-on activities: visit the pumpkin station, make a felt crow, and create a seed mosaic and a gourd critter. A performance by entertainer Judy Stock, music, and food round out the event.
The event is free and great for all ages. Donations are welcome. The Garden is located at the southern end of Cass Park on Rt. 89 in Ithaca

Gaia's Happy Hatchday Celebration: Gaia's 5's Hatchday!
Saturday July 31, 2010

Hatchday celebrates the Garden’s signature landmark, Gaia the Turtle, with a birthday celebration. Hands-on activities featured wetlands and turtles with elements of birthday party fun such as face painting and cake and ice cream.
In 2010, Onondaga Nation storyteller Perry Ground returned for his 3rd time and entertained with Native American turtle stories. Three local kid-friendly bands also performed this year, including Nate & Kate, The Pearly Snaps, and 18 Strings of Love.
For the first time, we invited local organizations such as the Cayuga Nature Center, Cornell Plantations, The Home Depot, The Family Reading Partnership, Museum of the Earth, Tompkins County Public Library, and Cornell Lab of Ornithology to participate in the Hatchday fun.
Over 400 people attended and were very pleased with the many activities they could enjoy. One visitor remarked, “Thank you for doing this. It’s been such a great day. Our kids loved the activities and we learned so much.”
Special thanks to this year's event sponsor: The Home Depot and supporters: Zelmar Construction Sales, Purity Ice Cream, and Fingerlakes Baking Company.
We look forward to next year's celebration!

Interested in bringing a salad garden to your school or youth program? The Salad Farmers program broadened and adapted to a semester-long school-based program called Seed to Salad. Kids take ownership of designing, planting, care taking, and harvesting a salad plot. This is another great way for kids to become connected into their food system.
Plant Science After School Enrichment
Are you looking for a way to bring some green into your classroom during the squishy spring? The Plant Science After School program is offered each spring between the mid-winter and spring break at elementary schools throughout Tompkins County. We cover all sorts of topics, ranging from Amazing Seeds! to Perfect Propagation! over the course of five sessions.
Wetlands Ecology
Kids of all ages can explore one of the newer elements of the Garden. Learn about what is involved in a wetlands ecosystem, from plants and animals to how wetlands can effect our daily lives. We encourage all sorts of exploration, so we'll provide the nets and field guides, and you can bring your sense of adventure!
